Holiday Gift Guide for Runners

Hi, everyone! Now that it is December, Christmas is approaching quickly and holiday shopping is in full swing! This little holiday gift guide will help you pick out the perfect present for the runner (or runners!) on your list!

(Disclaimer: I am not affiliated with any of these brands nor am I receiving any form compensation for this post. These are just items that I think are wonderful gifts!)

Cold Weather Running Wear and Accessories
Most runners aren’t going to stop running because of cold temperatures and snow, so they need special clothes and gear to keep them warm and safe in the winter months.

Gloves and hats specifically designed for running make excellent gifts or stocking stuffers. Many gloves now come with special fabric on the fingers for touch-screen, which makes listening to music and using GPS watches easier in winter. These gloves from Brooks Running come in a range of sizes and have reflective fabric to help you be seen!

If you want to splurge on them, look for coats, vests, or tights designed for winter running. These are made of fabrics that insulate to keep you warm but also wick sweat so you don’t get hypothermia. Bonus points if it’s stylish like this awesome jacket from Oiselle!  Oiselle Katron Pullover

Too bad you can’t gift someone the speed of those awesome lady runners at Oiselle!

Running clothes that you can layer also make great gifts, especially if your runner lives somewhere where it tends to be chilly most of the year. I saw this Saucony hoodie at the local running store and it looks so warm and cozy and easy to layer.

Give Back to the Running Community
Many runners will race to raise money for charity. If you know a runner who’s running a big race for a good cause, consider donating to their fund as a gift! You will help them reach their goal and help others in need.

You can also sponsor a runner in their name! Back on My Feet is a national non-profit that helps homeless people get “back on their feet” through using running to teach them self-sufficiency and give them support and confidence while also providing employment resources for them. You can support Back on My Feet by either purchasing their running gear as a gift or donating money for running clothes or race fees.

Training Journal
I talked last week about how useful journaling is for training and running. Give the runner in your life a beautiful training journal! Ryan got me a small Moleskin notebook that I currently use to record my training. Moleskins comes in a range of colors so you can get one in the recipient’s favorite hue! I’m also completely obsessed with this beautiful Believe training journal, which 5K champion Lauren Fleshman designed specifically for runners.

Race Entry
Has your runner friend repeatedly gushed about a race he or she would just love to run? Surprise them with an entry to the race! (Just be sure they haven’t already registered!) If they live in a different city than you do, a race in your city can double as a visit!

Safety Accessories
Us runners are a special breed of crazy who enjoy running outside in the dark. Give your runner the gift of light so that they can see and be seen when they’re pounding the pavement at 5 am. Knuckle Lights, Nathan Lights, and Amphipods are excellent products to increase visibility when running in the dark. Runner’s mace is a great gift option for runners, as they can use it to defend themselves against attackers.
