Happy Saturday, everyone! What are your weekend plans? Is anyone racing?
This weekend Ryan and I are planning on cycling along Lake Washington and then hitting up one of the other mountains in the Issaquah Alps for some more hiking. Oh, and maybe go see Jurassic World again, because sometimes you just need to see a movie twice in theaters (example A: Avengers: Age of Ultron).
Running and training for a race should never come at the expense of a healthy and balanced personal and professional life. Angela from Happy Fit Mama shares her tips with Competitor Running on Balancing the Scales of Training and Life.
With the obsession with clean eating and strongly adhere to particular diet philosophies, orthorexia is a real problem that many people struggle with, sometimes without even realizing it. Jordan Younger of The Balanced Blonde shares her struggles with veganism and orthorexia in her article My Life with Orthorexia.
Allie from Vita Train for Life offers some sage training (and life!) advice on how to Work on Your Weakness. It’s tempting sometimes to skip strength training or neglect stretching, but working on those weaknesses will only make me stronger come race day!
Amanda from Miss Zippy weighs in on the sports bra debate over at RunHaven with her article Is It OK to Run in a Sports Bra? She brings up some very sound points—a good sports bra is more covering than many trendy outfits!
Jesica from Runladylike ponders why Pace Isn’t Everything and how we can assess the value of a run based on more than just numbers. She also offers some great suggestions for questions and conversation starters to ask runners after a race other than just “how fast did you run?”
I’m usually not a smoothie fan, but this Strawberry Watermelon Chia Smoothie from Minimalist Baker sounds so light and refreshing! Is it bad if I want to switch out the banana for some gin for a sort of smoothie-summer-cocktail hybrid?
We’ve been loving fresh Washington cherries this week, so of course I want to make this Cherry Berry Buttermilk Crumb Cake from How Sweet Eats right now. Don’t deny that crumb topping is the best dessert innovation ever.
I love to cook (and eat!) a good from-scratch mac and cheese. This Broccoli Mac and Cheese from Gimme Some Oven looks just perfect.
Who else loves Saturday/Sunday morning pancakes? Sally’s Baking Addiction’s recipe for Strawberry Buttermilk Pancakes with Honey Butter is almost making me wish away my Friday night and Saturday long run so I can dive into a warm stack of fluffy pancakes.
Fresh fruit, grilled foods and BBQ anything are the quintessential summer foods. So what could be a more perfect summer dinner than this BBQ Chicken and Grilled Corn Rice Bowls with Berry Smashed Avocado from Half Baked Harvest?
Carrot cake is hands-down one of the best cakes, so why not put a breakfast twist on it? These Blueberry Carrot Cake Bars with Granola make for a sweet and satisfying breakfast or snack!
