Life Lately (November 24)

Hello, readers! How was your weekend? Did anyone race this weekend?

Life Lately

We experienced a cold snap this past week that makes me both excited for winter and sad to see the end of fall weather. Almost all the trees are bare and the temperatures have been steadily in the teens this week—thankfully the weather should return to normal and be in the 20s and 30s this coming week! I love running outside when in 30s, but once it dips below 10 or 15 degrees it’s harder for me to stay warm.

This week was a full week back to running after recovery from the race, and it felt good to just run how I wanted to run. Because of the sub-zero wind chills a few days this week and a thin layer ice on the ground on Saturday, I only did two out of my five runs outside. I ran a total of 29 miles this week, with a treadmill 10-miler on Tuesday and a bunch of progression runs. Now that I’m not polarizing my training between speed work and easy runs, most of my runs settled into an 8:20-8:35/mile pace. I also did a couple strength workouts using my all-angles ab workout plus some squats, lunges, and leg lifts for lower-body mobility and strength.

Charlie and I are starting a new tradition this holiday season called mile with mama! After a few runs each week I’m going to take Charlie out for an extra mile to get him lots of exercise and fresh air. After running six miles on the treadmill on Friday, I took him out for an untimed mile run together, which he loved! Plus it’s a great way for me to sneak in some extra mileage.

I’m debating between keeping my mileage relaxed this off-season or doing some serious base-building and really piling up a lot of easy and moderately paced miles. 29 miles this week felt really good and not hard on my body, so I’d like to see how some easy 30-35 mile weeks feel and then try to knock it up to 40 or so after Christmas.

I’m super excited for Thanksgiving and have been thinking pretty much non-stop about what I want to cook. I’ve been pretty much talking off Ryan’s ear about pie and different types of stuffings.

We received our wedding photos this week, which is super exciting! Our photographer (Abbey Grim Photography) did an amazing job! I highly recommend her to anyone looking for an experienced, friendly, and affordable photographer.
